Why are they so expensive?
These boards have a soft shell— but they are very HARD to make.
Each board takes an average of 8 hours extra labor compared to a typical board.
We build these boards using similar methods to any board builder. EPS foam and memory foam rails are all hand shaped. Basalt cloth is lighter and stronger than E glass and is stronger than carbon fiber. Basalt cloth is made from strands of volcanic rock woven into a fabric. We use epoxy resin with the basalt to form a very strong and light board.
BUT there is more—— we then vacuum a smooth aerospace vinyl like foam over the ENTIRE board. Why? Because it makes the board almost impossible to ding. The boards rails bounce off of boats and cement. And even if you crack the board inside, the skin will hold back any water from entering and causing delamination. Therefore, insuring this board could TRULY last your lifetime and whoever inherits it beyond.
